About this Piece
Our single cabs are great for making into quick pendants by simply gluing on a bail, or by wire wrapping them. Other project ideas include: magnets, letter openers and belt buckles. Some people have also used them to embellish purses and other projects. All of our cabs are sold in random assortment packs.
Each cabochon measures approximately: 1 1/2” x 1 1/2”
Artist Statement
My jewelry, dishes and art depict the way that I see the world around me and document little moments in time. The interaction of man with nature, of man with man, or of nature with nature, these details are what make up life and the world around us directly influences the way we interact and work with each other.
The way the sun shimmers over the water as it begins to set or rise in the morning. The way the grass falls after it is freshly cut. The colors that appear in the sunset or the multiple hues of green and blue that appear in the ocean. There is a simple symmetry in nature that imperfect sense of perfection within the shapes and forms that nature has created as it grows and blossoms into life.
Process
I start with glass as sheets, rods, and other raw forms. I then begin to manipulate the glass using a series of saws, cutting tools, and torches. The different design elements that I create are then tacked together to form the rough shape and design of the finished piece. The piece is fired at a high temperature causing the glass to melt and literally “fuse” into the finished piece. The piece is then ground and polished by hand and fired again to shape the glass into the finished piece when needed. This process can take anywhere from 8 to 36 hours per piece.
